Hello, I'm new in this forum. The reason I registered is because I can't connect to LAN. I can't even access to the LAN lobby to select the game I wanna play: I click to the LAN option, and nothing happens. I have this problem in both games: Classic and Enhanced. I'll be thankfull if you help me.

PD: Sorry about my english, i'm still learning. I hope you can understand me.
PD2: Is it possible to add to DTA a Start location selector, as Yuri's Revenge has?
PD3: You Bitah Commander and all your team did a grat job with DTA. Im a great fan of TD since I was a child. Thank you!

No, unfortunately that's not possible.

Thanks for the early response. I have Windows XP, Service pack 2, "Colossus". Its rare, because, in my Notebook i have Windows 7 starter, and there i have no problem. It's only in mi PC, where I have XP.

Have you confirmed whether it's possible to play on LAN with something other than DTA? It's likely that this issue is caused by your PC somehow not having proper access to the LAN.

I'd also recommend installing Service Pack 3 for Windows XP and seeing if that changes anything. Even if it wouldn't, it'd be beneficial with all the updates included in it.

Bitah Commander: I usually play Warcraft 3 in LAN, and I played Yuri's Revenge too (with the LAN fix "wsock32.dll"), and I have no problem with them. And i'm sure i'm conntected to LAN. ¿Maybe a Router trouble? I use the TP-Link "TL-R402M".

Rampastring: I installed Service Pack 3, but the problem is still there Puzzled

Thanks to both for the help.

PD: It would be great to have the start location selector. It's sad that is impossible to add Puzzled.

Sounds like an issue with the CnCNet DLL then (even if there was a router blocking it, it should still show the LAN lobby; you just wouldn't be able to see any players there).

You could ask the CnCNet developer, hifi, for assistance: http://webchat.freenode.net/?channels=cncnet
You could give him a link to this topic and see if he has any toubleshooting steps to take.

(The CnCNet DLL handles DTA's networking even in LAN mode).

Yeah, this confuses me as well, because I also tested entering the LAN lobby while having no network connection at all and it worked perfectly fine...

OK, i will ask to that guy, HIFI, for a solution.

However, i remember that i coudn't download DTA 1.11 from the DTA launcher.exe in this PC, because y have an "Error Getting updates: Unnable to connect to update server. PLease, see the file Launcher.log for more details".
So i had to download DTA form other computer, and copy-paste to this one, wichc is the same i have the LAN problem. ¿Are this troubles related?

I read the Launcher log, and it tells me this:

9. 2; 18:26:32.78 Attempting to parse CnCNet live status info..
9. 2; 18:26:32.109 Trying to connect to update mirror http://dta.ppmsite.com/updates/

9. 2; 18:26:34.265 Count of additional parameters: 0
9. 2; 18:26:34.296 Exiting..

Also read the DTA.log, (after i tried to connect to LAN) and found something that could be interesting:

IPX Socket number is 1388
About to create an IPX socket
Failed to create IPX socket - error code 183.

Does DTA use the same LAN fix that RA 2 and TS, who search for UDP-TCP protocols instead the IPX ones? (Maybe i'm wrong, because I don't know pretty much abaout LAN protocols and all that kind of stuff)

PD: Thanks again for all the help you provide to me!

TS can use the same LAN fix as RA2, but in DTA's case it uses a fix that's included with CnCNet, which actually works very similarly while playing on LAN.

Anyhow, judging from your log, DTA's launcher and likely DTA itself is unable to connect to the internet and most likely to your LAN as well. Could you tell me what virus scanner/firewall you have installed? I suspect DTA's network access is getting blocked by it, so either see if you can add DTA to an exception list of your firewall or try turning your virus scanner/firewall off.

My antivirus is Avast, and i have the Comodo Firewall. i have to say that, after i read your last post, i tried shutting down both (Firewall and antivirus), and run DTA, but it made no diference Puzzled

Hm, bugging hifi would be useless unless you get the Launcher problem solved (it might be the same issue with DTA and the Launcher afterall). Did you verify that all Comodo components were really disabled (I use it myself on my secondary computer, and it seems to like blocking connections despite you exiting it)? In addition Comodo's Sandbox and Defense+ "auto-sandbox" many programs without a digital signature, which reduces their running rights and could prevent the Launcher's and DTA's connection attempts.

Anyway, I think I'll create a special launcher for you which shows more information for why it can't connect (on Launcher.log). I won't do it now, but I'll upload it and send the link to you during the next few days. I currently can't say anything else but that the error happens very quickly (locally) looking at the milliseconds in Launcher.log.

No need man, but thank you. I've just fixed the problem. It was the god damn firewall all the time. I just moved several DTA's archives (Launcher, Log, Dat, etc.) to "Trusted Archives" and then I was able to play on LAN with any trouble. I've even tried RA 95 - The CnCnet version - in LAN, and it worked fine. Problem Solved. Thank you very much for all the help guys.

PD: Feel free to close the thread. I think the problem will not return.

Nice to hear that Smile

I don't think it'll do any damage to leave this thread open, we haven't closed other players' troubleshooting topics either.
