Hello i am new to this forum and i want to thank you for remaking an already an awesome game into something really epic however i do have a couple of questions

me and a friend play online time to time through tunngle but sometimes we get incredible amounts lag in (1.10)

he doesnt want to play anymore until this lag is fixed i tried everything from port forwarding to disabling our anti viruses Puzzled we even thought it had to do with our nvidia settings but no avail

even if we use cncnet we still have the same problem
can you help? . Sad(

we both have a decent computers with windows 7

is this weird lag issue fixed in 1.11?

P.S sorry for any bad english and i know i ask alot for a newcomer but this game is so awesome and brings back alot of memories from my childhood Smile

Two questions:

1. how far away are you from each other?
2. what type/speed of internet connection do you have?
3. do either of you have any lag in singleplayer (skirmish)?

Well, three. Whatever.

If you've really used CnCNet under 1.10 (made all the hacks requiring it to work), and it still lags, then we most likely can't do anything about it. For us CnCNet has been much faster and more reliable than anything else (incl. Hamachi and Tunngle) and we haven't got any lag with it.

But answer Chronoseth's questions and there's a chance that we'll sort something out.

my friend lives like only a couple of streets away from me Smile
i got glassfiber from upc which is really fast i even searched it up on the internet which countries have the the fastest connection available on the planet Smile and netherlands was somewhat near the top 10 Smile

neither of us have had any lag in singleplayer

however his cncnet tends to glitch out which he told me through skype Puzzled

i even went to visit him to check things out but could not find anything but then again when we play we do talk through skype
maybe skype is the problem?

Background tasks (including Skype) are a common source of slowdowns. When playing I usually have running only MSN, Xfire, and my AV (Kaspersky IS) and Daemon Tools in addition to DTA. I'm running XP though, and the TS engine seems to generally work better on XP and earlier than on Vista / 7.

If you have easily transferrable laptops, maybe you could see if the problem also exists in LAN. That'd tell us if it's a problem with your systems and the game or something with CnCNet.

i do have a another computer will that do? its my old computer which still runs on xp
however tunngle makes a virtual lan network we also play warcraft 3 through it sometimes because battle net these days is filled with blacklist and bots etc
but if we play that we never had any lag at all Smile

It should do, if it doesn't slow down on skirmish. If it doesn't, try playing between your current and your old computer in a real LAN (without using Tunngle) and see if you get any lag. If you don't, then try using CnCNet with both your computers and see if it lags and report the results here.

Right, AI players can cause really severe lag if there are too many of them.

Most of the time only with slow processors or very slow connections. Even my rather poor connection (high latency and low bandwidth) has been enough for matches with 4 human players and 4 AIs at 50+ FPS (60 being the highest speed limit in multiplayer).

The AIs mostly stress the CPU, but even a desktop AMD Athlon 64 5000+ or a Core 2 Duo should be enough for never seeing slowdowns because of the AI. So, practically, on newer systems you shouldn't see the game slowing down because of AIs. I actually never had any noticable performance problems even with a 5-year-old AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+, which is multiple times slower than modern desktop processors.

i just went to test again through lan with alot of ai including cncnet or tunngle
and vastly monitored both computers and didnt find anything that caused any slow down or stuttering
im starting to think its because of my friends computer must be the cause all of this however i cannot contact him until hes back from vacation which is about as long a week or two
soooo next time when i see him il i take my computer to his place and see if its his internet or something else
i did forget to mention im behind a router but the ports are open Smile

That's good to hear, since on our testing we've had no lag issues with CnCNet, and I believe the experience has been the same for all the dozens of other active CnCNet players. And btw you did already mention the router (and the port forwarding) in your first post Wink

No problem, we're always ready Tongue Would be interesting to really hear the cause of the slowdown, as it could also make helping other people with similar issues easier.

okay a update on the slowdown issue i played with my oldest brother through tunngle and after that we played normal tiberian dawn through cncnet and im pretty convinced that playing dawn of tiberian age through tunngle is a bad idea i found out that tunggle is the cause of the slowdown/lag issue it works fine in some games like warcraft 3 but i guess it isnt fit to play older games like tiberian sun or tiberian dawn or red alert its way too unstable because when we were using cncnet it went flawless

in other words stay away from tunngle if play those games just stick to cncnet Smile

CnCNet is simply better for the classic C&C games in every possible way anyway.
