Hi there,
if anyone is interested in playing this beautiful game with human oponents instead of not so tricky computer AI,
i suggest we could set up a network via Hamachi (downloadable for free, try to find it with some search engine on internet),
where we can see if anyone else is online and post messages to set up matches on particular time.
Please post here in forum, if you are interestred!

CnCNet is indeed a lot more convenient than hamachi. To set it up, simply download the wsock32.dll file, place it in the directory DTA is installed in and rename it to UDP_DTA.dll (while renaming the UDP_DTA.dll file that's already there to something else).
Once this is done, you can play against others that are also using CnCNet by going to the LAN lobby; I believe it's not that many people as of yet however (even with just vanilla TS), so you'll be best off inviting others to play up front.

Apparently CnCNet is down until the 20th... and I'm having no luck with the mentioned backup server.

CnCNet worked for me yesterday using the new DLL. And I'm interested in playing anytime, using instant messengers like Xfire or MSN is the best way of setting up games.

And now it's magically working for me too.
Anyway... a friend of mine is also interested in getting a game together.

Hi there,
i have also 2 friends, who are interested in. Please try to find more and more people and for example pass a word with lnk to this forum on other cnc forums. We are in GMT+1 timezone, what are yours timezones guys? Can you send me your e-mails (suppose this is way to communicate, not everyone has all communication clients but mail is common, but if you have icq, i would preffer it).
contact me asap, i will contact you back - we should try to run a game...

GMT -8 here.
At this point it looks like we have 6 or 7 people willing to play.

GMT +2. Really, getting some IM program would be a much better solution. MSN seems to be the most common one in the C&C communities.

An IM program? Got one for you right here

Haha, that one doesn't show days though. And no one stays on the site chat for the whole day looking for a DTA match =p (while real IM programs inform users when they get messages).

OK, so everyone agrees here with MSN? I suppose Skype could be also useful?Choose one (i prefer Skype - already have it). Write there, so we can arrange a game.

If we want to get a couple big games together, the 31'st is most convenient for me (and most likely others).
(should be an obvious reason)

If anyone is up for a match (we can arrange a time), we are able to discuss on MSN (livemessenger), icq, Skype. Let me know here or private message so i can send you a contact.

I could probably play some day, although as a staff member I'm not really interested in playing DTA 1.10 enhanced mode (classic still rocks). For MSN, see http://www.tiberiumweb.com/forums/index.php?showuser=957 -> Contact information.

cncnet is a very good way to play DTA online with others. A couple of my friends and I that met on cncnet play DTA through it and total fun.
Here is exactly how we set it up.
1. Download the wsock32.dll file and put it in you main DTA folder. The wsock32.dll file can be downloaded here> http://cncnet.cnc-comm.com/?page=downloads
2. Remove the UDP_DTA file and rename wsock32.dll to UDP_DTA.
3. Open "Notepad" and enter code below exactly.
[CnCNet]
Server=lobby.cncnet.cnc-comm.com
ServerPort=8054
Port=8054
PortForce=no
4. Save the file as cncnet.ini and put it in your DTA folder as well.
Then that is it you can get on and play with your friends using cncnet. We play both DTAv1.10 and RA Reloaded without any problems. If the game is unstable during internet play I would highly recommend running it as administrator and changing the compatibility setting to Windows 98.
Thats all I have. Has anyone already done this?

We've done that with the DTA staff for a while. CnCNet will also likely get included with 1.11 (likely, I'm not promising anything). Creating the CnCNet.ini isn't in most cases required at all btw; what you have there are just the default settings which are used by CnCNet anyway when the settings .ini is missing. The INI settings can just be used for solving connection problems if you run into them.
Note: The CnCNet DLL breaks WOL/XWIS/Internet play. To make it functional again, you have to restore the original UDP_DTA.dll.

I was indeed considering to include CnCNet with DTA 1.11 by default, and although it's unfortunate it completely replaces the LAN play functionality, it's forgivable since more people play online than over LAN for as far as I know and I can include scorpio9a's wsock32.dll file in a zip with instructions on how to restore LAN functionality.
However, the problem is that CnCNet's dll somehow prevents people from going onto XWIS, which is what made me reconsider. If it only replaced LAN or XWIS, it'd have just included CnCNet, but breaking 2 functions in favor of 1 is too much.
So unless a version of CnCNet that can work next to either LAN or XWIS (preferably both of course) is released before I release DTA 1.11, I won't be including it.

Edit: Now that I think about it, we might be better off using C&CNet than using a VPN . (look it up)
